Television Graphic Design
It was never a question whether or not art was going to play a huge role in my life. Growing up with two crazy art hipsters for parents kind of made the decision for me early on that I too would be a bit of an eccentric artist type. Of course as a kid I did not get that it was really my calling, and I tried to stay away from the art world, but something kept drawing me back in. After high school I made up my mind, and I realized the only place that would make me happy was art school.
Art school is where I figured out that I wanted to go into the field of graphic design. I loved the idea of working on projects that could be on televisions, in movies, and magazines too. If you want to go into graphic design, a degree is clearly your first step. During your education, you will learn all of the technical aspects to your creative trade. Take chances and risks during this time and always be observant of what others are doing.
After you dabble in all sorts of graphic goodness like I did, then you can really develop and create your own style. This is what will separate your work from others and help you to put together a portfolio for potential employment opportunities.
It took a couple tries here and there after I had a well put together portfolio for me to find a job. Despite what you might read, the graphic design field is flowing with all sorts of amazing talent. I finally got a job with a television provider in new york and I knew that I was in the job that I wanted and loved.
If you are uncertain of where your love of art will take you, do not be surprised when you end up in a profession that allows you to be as creative and artsy as you want. Television graphic design is an incredible field, and I am so glad my hipster parents let art influence my journey.
